Pertussis/Whooping Cough :
Rx:
Supportive
- Isolate the patient
- Minimize stimuli that trigger paroxysms is the best way to control cough
- Give Oxygen, if respiratory distress
- Maintain adequate hydration & nutrition by-
- Frequent small feeding with adequate fluid intake
- IV Infusion, when oral intake is difficult
- Provide ICU support for infants whose repeated
- paroxysms lead to life-threatening events
Specific Treatment :
1. Tab.Zimax(Azithromycin)(250/500mg)
- (10-20 mg/kg/day).....0+0+1......5 -7 days
OR
Tab.Clarin(Clarithromycin)(250/500mg)
- 7.5mg/kg/dose.....BD.....7 days
2. syrp.Ambrox
Drop- 6mg/ml
- ০-৬মাস পর্যন্ত→0.5ml (৮ড্রপ) ২বার
- ১-৫বছর পর্যন্ত→1ml (১৫ড্রপ) ২বার
- ৫বছর এর উপরে→1.25ml (২০ড্রপ) ২বার
Syp. 5mg/5ml
- ২-৫বছর পর্যন্ত→০.৫ চামচ করে ২-৩বার
- ৫-১০বছর পর্যন্ত→১চামচ করে ২-৩বার
- ১০বছর এর উপরে→২চামচ করে ৩বার
- 2 ml দিনে ৩ বার.......৫ দিন
Special note:
- Don't use corticosteroid bcz may cause mask sign of superinfection
- Nebylization করবো না কারন its may Precipitate Paroxysms.
Prevention :
- EPI Vaccination - Pentavalent vaccine
- Isolate the cases
