Haemorrhagic Disease of Newborn (HDN):
Clinical features :
- 1)warning bleeds, which may seem insignificant
- 2)low weight for your baby’s age
- 3)slow increase in weight
Site:
Bleeding can occur in one or multiple areas, including:
- 1)their umbilical stump, the naval area where 2)their umbilical cord was removed
- 3)the mucous membranes of their nose and mouth
- 4)their penis, if it’s circumcised
- 5)areas where they’ve been stuck by a needle, for example, for vaccinations
- 6)their gastrointestinal tract
Type:
- Early onset occurs within 24 hours of birth
- Classic onset occurs within two to seven days
- Late onset occurs within two weeks to six months
Causes:
- Vitamin K deficiency
- Trauma
- Clotting factor deficiency
- Cows milk Allergy
Investigation:
- 1)BT -normal
- 2)PT-Prolong
- 3)APTT-Prolong
- 4)IgE
- 5)CBC
