Protocols
Plaster of paris Technique :
- Instrument :
- 1)Soft roll
- 2)Water bucket
- 3)scissor
- 4)micropur/Tap
- 5)plaster of paris
Prepare injured site :
- Fracture is reduced and assistant holds fimb in position of function, in a manner that is unobtrusive to the application of cast
- Stockinette & measured, extending Wan beyond determined imits of cast, and threaded over imb. Upper limbs: 2-3” wide; lower limbs: 4” wide
- Wool/soft roll padding is applied gently but snugly, starting from distal to proximal with 50% overlap between successive tums, extending 2"-3" beyond edges of splint
- Padding is applied generally in 2 layers, but may be increased where there are bony prommnences or if significant swelling is antidpated
- Padding sizes, hand: 2”, rest of upper imb: 3-4"; foot: 3”, rest of lower limb: 4-6”
Advice:
Removing Plaster/Cast
Duration to keep Plaster or cast in situ:
- The time duration is much dependent upon the fracture site ,type, soft tissue condition and prope, follow up with radiograph and functional condition of the limb
Roughly the time duration assume:
- For children:
- Upper limb-3 weeks
- Lower limb-—6 weeks
- For adult:
- Upper limb-6 weeks
- Lower limb-—12 weeks
