- Menorrhagia is the medical term for menstrual periods with abnormally heavy or prolonged bleeding.
Causes:
- 1)Hormone imbalance.
- 2)Dysfunction of the ovaries.
- 3)Uterine fibroids.
- 4)Polyps.
- 5)Adenomyosis.
- 6)Intrauterine device (IUD).
- 7)Pregnancy complications
Clinical features :
- 1)Soaking through one or more sanitary pads or tampons every hour for several consecutive hours.
- 2)Needing to use double sanitary protection to control your menstrual flow.
- 3)Needing to wake up to change sanitary protection during the night.
- 4)Bleeding for longer than a week.
- 5)Passing blood clots larger than a quarter.
Investigation:
- 1)CBC
- 2)USG of L/A
- 3)Endometrial Biopsy
- 4) pap test
- 5)Sonohysterography
- 6)Htsteroscopy
🗒️Rx:
- Treatment for menorrhagia depends on the cause or the underlying medical condition.
1. Cap.Xamic (Tranexamic acid)(500mg)
- 1+1+1............3-5 days
2.Tab.Normens (Norethisterone)(5mg)
- 1+0+1............21 days start from 1 st day menstration then stop for 7 days . Repeat 3 cycle.9২১ দিন তারপর ৭দিন বন্ধ। এভাবে ৩ মাস ।( মাসিকের ১ম দিন থেকে)
3.Cap.Zif-CL(zinc+iron+folic acid)
- 0+0+1....................1 month
Self-care:
- Bed rest may be recommended if bleeding is heavy.
- Record the number of pads or tampons you have used so that your doctor can determine the amount of bleeding. Change tampons regularly, at least twice a day.
- See your gynaecologist if symptoms persist.
