Scarlet Fever

Protocols

Scarlet Fever:

  • Bacteria called group A Streptococcus (group A strep) cause scarlet fever


Clinical Features:

  • Fever of 100.4 F (38.0 C) or higher, often with chills.
  • Very sore and red throat, sometimes with white or yellowish patches.
  • Difficulty swallowing.
  • Enlarged glands in the neck (lymph nodes) that are tender to the touch.
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • abdominal pain.
  • Stawberry tongue 

Investigation :

  • 1)CBC 
  • 2)Throat Culture 
  • 3)Rapid antigen test

Rx:

1. Tab.Clarin([post id="403" title="Clarithromycin"]) (250/500mg)

  • 1+0+1……….10 days

OR

Cap.Moxin([post id="402" title="Amoxicillin"]) (250/500mg)

  • 1+1+1……….10 days

If fever:

Tab.Napa ([post id="449" title="Paracetamol"]) (500mg)

  • 1+1+1+1........3-5 days 

if Rash

Tab.Xyril ([post id="534" title="Hydroxyzine"]) (10mg)

  • 1+0+1.......7 days 

For Local itching :.

Togent(Diphenhydramine) cream

  •  Apply locally... TDS 

 Prevention:

  • Wash your hands. Show your child how to wash his or her hands thoroughly with warm soapy water.
  • Don't share dining utensils or food. 
  • Cover your mouth and nose.
