Amoebiasis
Protocols
Clinical Features:
- Cramping (abdominal pain).
- Diarrhea (sometimes with rectal bleeding).
- Fever.
- Loose stools (amebiasis stool color may not change, but stools may be watery).
- Nausea.
Investigations:
- Liver Function Test
- USG of W/A
- Colonoscopy
- Stool RME
Rx:
Early hepatic amoebiasis
1. Tab.Filmet([post id="406" title="Metronidazole"])(400mg)
- 2+2+2………..5-10 days
OR
- 1+0+1………...3-5 days
2.Cap.Seclo([post id="391" title="Omeprazole"]) (20mg)
- 1+0+1………..10 days
3.Tab.Dilamid(Diloxanide)(500mg)
- 1+0+1……….10 days
Prevention:
- Thoroughly wash fruits and vegetables before eating.
- Avoid eating fruits or vegetables unless you wash and peel them yourself.
- Stick to bottled water and soft drinks.
- If you must drink water, boil it or treat it with iodine.
- Avoid ice cubes or fountain drinks.
