 Xerophthalmia : 

Clinical Features:

  • XN: Night blindness 
  • X1A: Conjunctival xerosis 
  • X1B: Bitot's spots 
  •  X2 : Corneal xerosis 
  •  X3A : Corneal ulceration — less than 1/3 of the cornea 
  •  X3B : Corneal ulceration — more than 1/3 of the cornea 
  •  XS : Corneal scars 
  •  XF : Xerophthalmic fundus (In adult). 

Investigations: 

1)Plasma retinol values in children:

  • Less then 0.35 mol/L - very deficient
  • 0.35-0.7 umol/L — deficient 
  • 0.7-1.05 umol/L — marginal 
  • >1.05 umol/L — sufficient 

2) The liver vitamin A concentration — lower than 20 ug/g. 

Rx: 

➡️ Below 6 month 

Cap.Ratinol Forte (50000IU)

  • Day- 1
  • Day-2
  • Day-14

➡️ 6-12 months 

Cap.Ratinol Forte (100000IU)

  • Day- 1
  • Day-2
  • Day-14

➡️ >12 months 

Cap. Ratinol forte ( 200000IU)

  • Day- 1

💢Advice:


1)Eat vitamin A containing food & vegetables 


2)Balance Diet
