Metabolic Acidosis :
Causes:
- 1)Aspirin poisoning
- 2)DKA
- 3)RTA (renal tubular acidosis)
- 4)AKI
- 5) Diarrhoea
- 6)CKD
Parametter:
- pH= less then 7.4
- HCO3- = less then 22 mEq /L
Clinical Features:
- 1)Confusion.
- 2)Fast heartbeat.
- 3)Feeling sick to your stomach.
- 4)Headache.
- 5)Long and deep breaths.
- 6)Not wanting to eat.
- 7)Vomiting.
- 9)Feeling tired.
Investigation :
- 1) ABG
- 2) Anaion Gap
- 3)Serum electrolyte
- 4) RBS
- 5)LFT
- 6)Serum creatinine
- 7) Ketone body
Rx:
- Treatment of Underlying cause
- oral or intravenous sodium bicarbonate to raise blood pH.
- sodium citrate to treat metabolic acidosis due to distal renal tubular acidosis.
- insulin and intravenous fluids to treat ketoacidosis.
- renal replacement therapy (dialysis)
