Respiratory Acidosis:
Causes:
- 1)Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- 2)Asthma.
- 3) pulmonary fibrosis.
- 4)Obesity.
- 5)Sleep apnea.
- 6)Pneumonia
- 7)Pneumothorax
- 8)CNS Depression
Parametter:
- pH = less then 7.4
- pCo2 = > 45 mmHg
Clinical Features:
- 1)Hyperventilating.
- 2)Shortness of breath.
- 3)Fatigue.
- 4)Chronic exhaustion.
- 5)Headaches.
- 6)Drowsiness.
- 7)Confusion.
- 8)Sweating.
Investigations:
- 1)ABG
- 2) Serum creatinine
- 3)Serum Electrolyte
- 4)LFT
- 5)CBC
- 6)ECG
Rx:
- Treatment of underlying causes
- Oxygen if the blood oxygen level is low.
- Noninvasive positive-pressure ventilation (sometimes called CPAP or BiPAP) or a breathing machine, if needed.
- Mechanical ventilation if needed
