Protocols

Clinical Features:

  • A pins and needles sensation in your fingers, toes, ankles or wrists
  •  Weakness in your legs that spreads to your upper body
  • Unsteady walking or inability to walk or climb stairs
  •  Difficulty with facial movements, including speaking, chewing or swallowing
  •  Double vision or inability to move the eyes
  •  Severe pain that may feel achy, shooting or cramplike and may be worse at night
  •    Difficulty with bladder control or bowel function
  •   Rapid heart rate
  •   Low or high blood pressure
  • Difficulty breathing



 Investigations:

  • CSF-Albino-cytological dissociation 
  • Motor nerve conduction study- reduced
  • Electromyogram- acute denervation of muscle 
  • serum alkaline phosphate
  • Stool RME -H.pylori 
  • Sural nerve biopsy


Rx:

Supportive Rx:

  • Counsel the parent about disease
  • Bed Rest & 2hourly change posture to prevent bed sore 
  • Feeding- NG Feeding if unable to eat orally
  • Bowel & Bladder care 
  • Physiotherapy 

Tab. Inflam(200/400mg) ..1+0+1....if pain

Specific Rx:

1. IVIg (normoglobin): 1-2g/kg/day for 3 days single dose 

2. Plasmapheresis

3.Rehabilation

Prognosis: 

Symptomatic treatment >90%  children recover
