Insulin resistance syndrome/metabolic syndrome:
It is the combination of three or more of the 5 features (no.1 plus any two from no. 2-5,
IDF criteria):
- Waist circaumference >_ 90 cm (in male) and >_ 80 cm (in female)
- Blood pressure 130/85 mm of Hg
- HDL Cholesterol
- TG >_150 mg/dl
- Fasting blood glucose >_ 5.6 mmol/L
This syndrome is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and Mortality.
A wrist Circumference more than normal represents insulin resistance and regarded as the most important components of the Syndrome.
