PLATELETS:
Normal value: 150,000-450,000/cu mm.

THROMBOCYTOSIS:

(Count above 450,000/cu mm)

PANCYTOPENIA
When all the three elements of blood are reduced:
Subleukaemic leukaemia
Aplastic anaemia
Bone marrow infiltration, i.e. Hodgkin’s, multiple
myeloma or secondary carcinoma deposit.
Hypersplenism

Megaloblastic anaemia
Disseminated sclerosis.

Marrow hypoplasia:

syndromes, e.g. Fanconi's anaemia,

dyskeratosis congenita,

amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia

• ldiopathic aplastic anaemia

• Drug-induced: cytotoxics,

antimetabolites

• Transfusion-associated graft-versus-

host disease
